How LightSheer Desire works
The LightSheer Desire system generates highly concentrated laser energy through a cooled handpiece placed on your skin. As the laser energy penetrates the skin, it is absorbed by the pigment found in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment. In this way, LightSheer selectively disables many follicles at a time, destroying unwanted hair or significantly hindering its regrowth.
The procedure is computer-guided and won’t effect any surrounding tissue. LightSheer Desire treatments typically provide 80% permanent reduction, plus or minus 20% re-growth that is finer, lighter and thinner.
LightSheer Desire special handpiece cools and protects the skin before, during and after each pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root. This helps make the procedure comfortable, safe and effective for people of all skin colors.
Why LightSheer Desire is a better choice than electrolysis
At Skin Solutions at Plastic & Hand, we see many advantages to using the LightSheer Desire system. While electrolysis is a popular form of long-term hair removal, it can be painful and slow. An electric current passes through a needle to destroy follicles, hair by hair. Electrolysis can take months or even years of regular treatments to remove hair on even a small area such as the upper lip.
With LightSheer Desire, we can disable hundreds of hair follicles in less than one second; with electrolysis, this might take an hour. The LightSheer Desire system is quick, highly effective and relatively comfortable.
What treatment involves
Hair removal with LightSheer Desire is an in-office procedure. It may take a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area we’re treating. Your Skin Solutions aesthetician will gently place the cooled handpiece against your skin. As pulses of laser energy are beamed through the handpiece, you might feel a tingling sensation or mild sting, which is generally not too uncomfortable. We recommend a topical anesthetic available at your local pharmacy for sensitive body areas.
After treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away. We usually recommend that you follow a special skincare regimen tailored to your skin type after laser treatments. We also advise using sunscreen on any treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments you need depends on your hair’s growth. Because the laser tends to target hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, you will need at least four treatments to disable follicles that later enter this phase. The location, density and resilience of the hair being treated are other determining factors. In most cases, four treatments are needed.
Any side effects you experience with LightSheer will tend to be minor. They might include a slight reddening or swelling of the skin which usually lasts anywhere from 3 to 5 days. In rare cases, there might be some blistering at the treatment site.
Who should consider LightSheer Desire hair removal treatment?
Any woman or man with unwanted hair is a candidate for LightSheer. The system works best for dark hair growing on light skin. We’ll be happy to tell you more about this procedure during your complimentary consultation at Skin Solutions from Plastic & Hand.
